Here is a section of that painting showing a woman dancing where you can see her shoe. I've played with the brightness so you can see the shoe and hose better. It is just a simple mary jane style shoe, buckled on the outside.
Now all I need to do is get the hang of this turn shoe with a rand thing. I read "Shoes and Pattens" last night and feel not much wiser. I'm guessing it would be a continuous rand (i.e. skinny strip of leather that goes between the sole and the upper to increase the water tightness of the shoe). The problem we may have with Eadie's shoes is that the sole leather is not as thick as we'd like and I'm worried that the edge/flesh seams may just tear through when the shoe is turned out. Might need to get thicker sole leather.

OOOOH! Very nice! But I can see the challenges you'd have, they seem very different then the others you've made.
When is feast of the four winds? I have some fear that it's soonish.
You can always stitch them on the outside rather than making them as a turnshoe. There are enough period examples of this style of stitching that you would not be pushing any boundaries. In fact of the top of my very muddled head, I suspect it is the more common method by this time, but I will have to go and look that up as I could well be speaking utter crap. I'm really going to stop reading your blog and ring you, now, so that we can sort out some shoeiness.
That explains the phone call on Sunday about shoes. I got mildy confused.
I think I will organise a weekend after Crown to do some serious shoe making with the stunt double.
OOOH! AND ME! INVITE ME TOO!
